Dr. Alistair Mokoena

Professor Alistair Mokoena is a distinguished marketing, media, advertising, and technology expert with a remarkable academic background, holding a PhD in Business Administration, an MBA, and a Chartered Marketer qualification.

With over 25 years of corporate experience spanning various industries, including FMCG, banking, media, and technology, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his roles.

Since assuming the position of Country Director for Google South Africa in April 2020, Professor Mokoena has been instrumental in leading Google’s commercial operations in Southern Africa.

He works closely with clients and stakeholders to drive Africa’s digital transformation, championing initiatives to bridge the digital divide and ensure that Africa harnesses the full potential of Google’s technology.

In addition to his role at Google, Professor Mokoena serves as an Extraordinary Professor of Practice at NWU Business School and sits on the Board of the Institute for Intelligent Systems at UJ.

He is deeply committed to academic research and has authored and co-authored several publications on the impact of digital disruption on the advertising and marketing industry.

Professor Mokoena’s exemplary leadership and contributions have been widely recognized.

He was honored as the Best Advertising and Marketing Leader in South Africa in 2019 and was a runner-up for the Most Admired Agency Leader in Johannesburg in 2017.
