Dr. Chinasa T. Okolo

Dr. Chinasa T. Okolo is a Fellow at The Brookings Institution and a recent Ph.D. graduate in Computer Science from Cornell University.

Her research at Brookings focuses on exploring the potential of human-centered AI in the Global South.

Specifically, she examines how African governments can facilitate effective AI governance, investigates the impact of data work in the Global South, and analyzes datafication and algorithmic marginalization in Africa.

In addition to her role at Brookings, Dr. Okolo serves as a Consulting Expert with the African Union, contributing to the development of the AU-AI Continental Strategy for Africa.

She is also an Expert Contributing Writer for the International Scientific Report on Advanced AI Safety, a Drafting Member of the Nigeria National AI Strategy, and an Ethics Advisor to the Equiano Institute, a research lab dedicated to promoting safe and trustworthy AI in Africa.

Dr. Okolo’s research has garnered widespread attention and has been featured in various media outlets. Her work has been published in top-tier venues in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and sociotechnical computing.
