Harold Tavares

Harold Tavares has been a tireless advocate for democratic principles and socioeconomic development within his home country of Cabo Verde and across its Diaspora. He is currently Chief of Staff to the Prime Minister and served previously as Special Advisor to Cabo Verde’s Ambassador to the United States and to the Mayor of Praia, the country’s capital and largest city. As Chief of Staff, he is a principal counselor to the Prime Minister on a wide range of national and international affairs and also manages the day-to-day operations of his office.

A true citizen of the world, Mr. Tavares’s work, perspective, and insights span six continents with extensive professional experience in the United States. Past interviews with international media outlets include CCTV Africa, French International Radio, CNN, and The Boston Globe.

For more than a decade, he has been a key member of the international relations team at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts and was instrumental in the University being selected as a host campus for the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

Tavares has two Master’s Degrees – one in Financial Economics from Boston University and the other in Public Administration from Bridgewater State University – as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics. He is also a Member of the Board of Directors for the Pedro Pires Institute for Leadership and OneWorld Classroom.
