Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana is the Minister of Trade in Cameroon, a position he has held since December 8, 2004.
He plays a significant role as the Spokesperson for the ACP countries (African, Caribbean, and Pacific) in multilateral trade negotiations at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
Born on July 8, 1954, in Nsazomo, in the Mefou and Afamba department of the Center region of Cameroon, Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana pursued his education at various prestigious institutions.
He completed his secondary education at the Middle Seminary of Mvolyé in Yaoundé, where he obtained the Baccalaureate A2. He continued his studies at the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences of the University of Yaoundé, earning a License in Law and Economic Sciences in 1977.
He furthered his education at the University of Paris 1 – Panthéon-Sorbonne, where he obtained a DESS (Diploma of Specialized Higher Studies) in International, Maritime, and Air Transport in 1984. Later, he earned another DESS in Public Enterprise Law from Paris-Dauphine University and Paris-Sud University in 1987-1988.
Mr. Mbarga Atangana’s career began at the Caisse Nationale de Prévoyance Sociale (CNPS) from November 1977 to June 1981, where he served in various capacities including Deputy to the head of the Administrative department, head of the Studies department, and general management assistant.
From 1981 onwards, he transitioned into the banking sector, where he held roles both in Cameroon and internationally. Notably, from February 1983 to February 1991, he served as the First Delegate for Europe and North Africa of the Cameroonian Bank Organization (OCB) based in Paris.
His extensive academic background and professional experience in law, economics, and public enterprise have equipped him well for his role as Minister of Trade, where he continues to represent Cameroon and the ACP countries in international trade negotiations and policy-making at the WTO.
