Kyra Harris Bolden is an accomplished judge, politician, and civil litigation attorney, currently serving as an associate justice of the Michigan Supreme Court since January 1, 2023.
Prior to her judicial appointment, Bolden served as a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives for the 35th district from January 1, 2019, to January 1, 2023.
In 2022, Bolden ran as a candidate for the Michigan Supreme Court but finished third behind incumbents Richard Bernstein and Brian Zahra. However, on November 22, 2022, Bolden was appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, succeeding Bridget Mary McCormack.
Before her judicial career, Bolden practiced as a civil litigation attorney. During her bid for re-election in 2020, Bolden faced a Democratic primary challenge from Shadia Martini. Despite the competition, Bolden secured victory in the primary, defeating Martini by a significant margin. Subsequently, she went on to win re-election in the 2020 general election, triumphing over Republican challenger Daniela Davis.
