Omar Hadi Aboubaker

Mr. Omar Hadi Aboubaker is a prominent figure in Djibouti’s economic landscape, serving as Chairman of both the Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) and Great Horn Investment Holding (GHIH).

Under Mr. Hadi’s leadership, DPFZA has become the primary administrative entity for free zones, providing a conducive business environment with comprehensive services through its One Stop Shop, including visas and permits. The authority also boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure tailored to accommodate various business activities.

Meanwhile, GHIH plays a pivotal role in Djibouti’s transformation into a key economic hub for East Africa, holding strategic assets in the maritime, aviation, and logistics sectors.

Mr. Hadi’s educational background includes degrees from Le Conservatoire National des Arts et Métiers in Le Havre, France, focusing on Ports & Multimodal Transport, and a Master’s from the World Maritime University in Sweden in Ports & Shipping Administration.

He is a member of the UK’s Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT), which received its Royal Charter in 1926.

His career trajectory is marked by significant milestones, starting with his tenure as Director of Operations at the Port of Djibouti in 1992. He subsequently served as Director of the container terminal and later as Sales Director until 2008.

Notably, Mr. Hadi was instrumental in the development of the port of Doraleh, capable of handling up to 1.5 million containers annually. He also led operations at Tin Can Island near Lagos, Nigeria, before assuming the presidency of DPFZA in 2001.

Mr. Omar Hadi Aboubaker’s leadership and expertise continue to shape Djibouti’s strategic positioning in regional and global trade and logistics sectors.
