Second International Decade for People of African Descent officially proclaimed for 2025-2034!

Good news! It’s official…Proclamation of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent 2025-2034!

The new decade, beginning in 2025, will build on the progress of the past 10 years to advance the human rights of people of African descent globally,” said the UN Human Rights Chief Volker Türk on 17th December 2024 as the UN General Assembly welcomed the proclamation of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent.

Racial justice demands collective action. To secure the full rights and freedoms of people of African descent, States and all of us must effectively confront the legacies of enslavement and colonialism, dismantle systemic racism and deliver reparatory justice. We need bold action to deliver real change,” the High Commissioner said.

As the coordinator of the International Decade, the High Commissioner has repeatedly called for the proclamation of a Second International Decade that is truly transformative and inclusive.

Over the past decade, we have gained greater understanding and visibility of the lived experiences of people of African descent, but not enough has been done to create real, positive changes in their lives.” he continued.

UN Human Rights welcomes this renewed commitment to realize ‘Recognition, Justice and Development’ for people of African descent and will support all efforts to translate it into concrete actions and meaningful change.

Just as articulated by the Former CEO, MIPAD, Kamil Olufowobi at Recognition Week 2024,”The end of this 1st Decade marks the beginning of a new era. As we step into the 2nd Decade and MIPAD 2.0 under new leadership, let us unite in driving more meaningful change with the same commitment and passion,” he said

In the 1st Decade MIPAD, Most Influential People of African Descent has recognized over 2000 exceptional personalities and high achievers of African descent from around the world, honoring their continuous and significant contributions to humanity.

MIPAD’s current CEO, Jonathan Olufowobi stated, reinforcing the importance of mentorship, advocacy, and community-building within the global African diaspora. “I am honored to usher MIPAD into the digital age in support of the Second International Decade for People of African Descent particularly through youth leadership, leading by example, and guiding us into the future where young leaders take the helm. We must build bridges for the next generation while laying the foundation for tomorrow’s leaders, thinkers, and changemakers.”

What a beautiful way to wind up the year. Looking forward to a prosperous 2025 where recognition, justice and development is a lifestyle for people of African descent!!
