Aicha Evans, is an American executive who currently serves as the CEO of Zoox, Amazon’s self-driving car subsidiary. Under her leadership, Zoox was acquired by Amazon in June 2020 for a sum of US$1.3 billion.
She was born in Senegal and spent her formative years in Paris before immigrating to the United States. She pursued her education at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering in 1996.
Throughout her career, Aicha has held various engineering management roles at prominent companies such as Rockwell Semiconductor, Conexant, and Skyworks Solutions.
She joined Intel in 2006 and spent 12 years with the company, specializing in leading wireless engineering projects encompassing technologies like Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, XMM register, and 5G.
In 2013, Evans assumed leadership of a communications and devices division comprising over 7,000 employees. She was later promoted to Chief Strategy Officer in 2017. Notably, Evans also served as a witness in a Federal Trade Commission case against Qualcomm, alleging unfair business practices and potential anti-trust violations.
In February 2019, Evans took on the role of CEO at Zoox, making her the first Senegalese-American female CEO of an autonomous vehicle technology company.
