She holds ownership of four patented projects individually and an additional three in collaboration. Recognized as “The youngest pioneer in Ethiopia’s rapidly emerging tech scene” by CNN, Betelhem’s achievements underscore her impact on the technology landscape.

Born and raised in Harar, Ethiopia, Betelhem embarked on her career journey at the tender age of nine. Supported by her father, she gained exposure to computers through his electronic shop.

Her determination to celebrate her ninth birthday led her to work in the shop, where she honed her skills by assisting customers with audio and video files, earning 1600 Ethiopian birr.

This experience ignited her passion for computers, leading her to excel in video editing, computer maintenance, and cellphone software installation.

By age ten, she was already proficient in coding in HTML, and she went on to teach basic computer skills to her classmates while balancing her regular schoolwork.

Betelhem’s exceptional contributions to her community garnered government recognition at an early age, leading to interviews with multiple local and national media platforms.

Upon relocating from Harar to Addis Ababa with her parents, she began her professional career as a developer for the Ethiopian Information Network Security Agency (INSA) at the remarkable age of twelve, serving from 2011 to 2012.
