Dr. Jan Yves Remy currently serves as Co-President of TradeLab, a global network of universities that provides international trade and investment advice to beneficiaries, particularly in developing countries.

She is also the Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre for International Trade Law, Policy and Services (SRC) at the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. The SRC is renowned for its focus on training, research, and outreach in regional and international trade issues.

Jan co-ordinates and lectures within the SRC’s flagship Masters in International Trade Policy (MITP) programme, specializing in international trade law, regional integration, and other related topics.

She has initiated several outreach initiatives at the SRC, including Trading Thoughts, SRC Policy Briefs, SRC Lunch Time Chats, and the Distinguished Owen Seymour Arthur Memorial Lecture. Additionally, she has developed numerous short courses on trade-related subjects and regularly publishes on Caribbean development and trade law.

Jan Yves’ research interests encompass international and regional trade dispute settlement regimes, climate change and trade, trade sustainability, WTO reform, trade and gender issues, e-commerce, regional integration, and investment policy as they impact small island developing states, particularly in the Caribbean.

She holds the WTO Chair position at the University of the West Indies (Barbados) as part of the WTO’s Chair Programme and has served as a panelist in WTO trade disputes. Jan Yves is also included on the panel roster for arbitrator and chair positions in mechanisms under European and UK FTAs.

She serves on several boards, including the John Jackson Moot Court Advisory Board, the Editorial Board of the Journal of International Economic Law, and the Special Advisory Board of the African Journal of International Economic Law.

Jan co-founded the Caribbean Women in Trade network and co-leads the “Remaking Global Trade for a Sustainable Future” Project, aimed at reforming the international trade system to address sustainability concerns, alongside professors from Yale University and Tufts University.

She is also the Founder of the Joint University Study Tour (JUST), an annual tour to Geneva that brings together postgraduate students from around the world to network and visit Geneva-based missions and international organizations.

Jan holds an undergraduate law degree with Honours from the University of the West Indies, a Master’s degree with Honours from the University of Cambridge, and a PhD (summa cum laude) from the Graduate Institute of Development Studies on the Role of the Caribbean Court of Justice in Caribbean integration.

Prior to her current roles, Jan Yves worked as a Senior Associate at Sidley Austin LLP in Geneva and Washington D.C., and previously served as a Legal Officer at the Appellate Body of the WTO in Geneva.
