Eniola Aluko MBE, is a distinguished Nigerian-British football executive, broadcaster, and former professional player renowned for her versatility as a winger and striker.
Her illustrious career includes significant contributions to the sport, both on and off the field.
Aluko has established herself as a prominent figure in football broadcasting, serving as a regular commentator for live matches on prestigious platforms such as ITV, BT Sport, Amazon Prime, and Fox Sports in the USA since 2014.
Her expertise encompasses a wide range of football events, including men’s Premier League matches and Women’s Super League fixtures.
In addition to her broadcasting role, Aluko has held pivotal positions within football clubs, notably serving as the first Sporting Director for Angel City FC in the American National Women’s Soccer League.
She also previously held the position of Sporting Director at Aston Villa W.F.C. from January 2020 to June 2021, demonstrating her commitment to shaping the future of women’s football.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Aluko relocated to Birmingham, England, at a young age. She represented England on the international stage, making 102 appearances for the national team from 2004 to 2016.
Her impressive international career includes participation in major tournaments such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the UEFA Women’s Euro, as well as representing Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
At the club level, she showcased her talent for various teams, including Birmingham City, Charlton Athletic, and Chelsea in England’s FA Women’s Premier League. She also played for Saint Louis Athletica, Atlanta Beat, and Sky Blue FC in the American Women’s Professional Soccer league.
Aluko’s tenure at Chelsea, where she played from 2012 to 2018, was particularly noteworthy. Before retiring from professional football in January 2020, she concluded her career as a forward for Juventus, leaving an indelible mark on the sport.
