MIPAD Releases Global Top 10 Most Influential People of African Descent to Watch in Canada

As part of its preparations to release the top 10 Most Influential People of African Descent to Watch in Canada in 2026; The Most Influential People of African Descent (MIPAD) has announced the appointment of Mwende Mbevi as its new Canada Country Director, marking a significant step in strengthening MIPAD’s presence and impact across North America.

MIPAD is a global civil society initiative aligned with the United Nations International Decade for People of African Descent, dedicated to amplifying the achievements, leadership, and positive global impact of people of African descent.

Mwende Mbevi brings over 25 years of professional experience in development and humanitarian service to her new role. She holds an undergraduate degree in Communications & Community Development from Daystar University, Kenya, and is a distinguished graduate of Momentum Education. She also possesses a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and is a certified life coach, credentials that underscore her people-centered and impact-driven leadership style.

Throughout her career, Mwende has received multiple honours and recognitions for her unwavering commitment to humanitarian work, youth development, and women’s empowerment. Her advocacy spans critical global issues including poverty alleviation, access to education, climate action, and sustainable development, reflecting a lifelong dedication to creating equitable opportunities for underserved communities.

She is also the Founder of the Seriana Foundation, where she leads initiatives focused on sustainable water access, youth empowerment, and community development. Through this work, Mwende has demonstrated a consistent ability to translate vision into action and deliver measurable social impact.

In her role as Canada Country Director, Mwende will lead efforts to identify, celebrate, and empower outstanding individuals within the African diaspora, while fostering collaboration and building a dynamic network of leaders committed to positive change. Her leadership will play a pivotal role in strengthening ties between Africa and the diaspora, while amplifying Canadian voices within the global African excellence ecosystem.

Speaking on her appointment, Mwende shared her leadership philosophy, describing her aspiration to be “a responsive, vulnerable, and connected leader,” committed to uplifting others and leveraging philanthropy as a catalyst for collective progress.
