Anna Makanju currently holds the role of Vice President of Global Affairs at OpenAI, where she leads the company’s policy and engagement strategy.

Prior to joining OpenAI, she focused on technology regulation at Facebook and served as a faculty member at Princeton University.

With an extensive background in public service, Anna spent eight years in the Obama/Biden administration, where she served as a senior policy advisor to the Vice President.

She also held various national security and foreign policy positions at the White House, Department of State, and Pentagon.

Anna’s educational background includes a law degree from Stanford University. She has also gained experience working at international criminal tribunals in The Hague, on the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and in the international arbitration group of Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton LLP.

Born in the former USSR, Anna spent much of her upbringing between Lagos and Leningrad.
